Alfy was an organizer of the Catasauqua Firefighters Association and served as the first secretary/treasurer. He ran the programs to get funds for the firemans parade and through his efforts, earned a grant to build along side of the Southwark building.

He accomplished this without any increase in taxes as well. These grant funds also helped to carpet and provide chairs for the Borough Chamber, funded the Catty Police Department computers, remodeling of the park bathrooms, playground equipment, and much more. During his tenure, he was also involved with the upgrade and financing of the Catasauqua Waste Water Treatment Plant and the overhauling of the Fresh Water Treatment Plant.
