Obituary for C. Thomas Fuller
Charlton Thomas Fuller, 92 of Catasauqua, died Monday, September 5, 2011 peacefully at his home, Willow Brook Farms in Catasauqua, PA. He was the husband of Alexandra Huston Fuller and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary June of this year. Born in New York, NY he was the son of the late Colonel James W. Fuller, founder of The Fuller Company in Catasauqua and the late Dorothy (Stahlkop) Fuller. He was a graduate of The Choate School in Wallingford, Connecticut and a graduate of Washington & Lee University, Lexington, Virginia, where he was captain of wrestling and inducted into the Southern Conference Washington & Lee Hall of Fame. (2 Time Southern Conference Wrestling Champion and National Qualifier) Fuller served in the U.S. Navy in both theatres of the war, as ASW officer on a destroyer escort in the Atlantic, and as Executive Office on an APD in the Pacific. He was Chairman of the Board of the Allentown Portland Cement Company until the company was sold to National Gypsum in 1960 and President of The Fuller Company. Fuller was a noted horseman and President of Willow Brook Enterprises, Inc. He was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and also into the National Reining Horse Hall of Fame. Many of his Quarter Horses were world renowned both at the track and in the performance arena. His Quarter Horse farm, Willow Brook Farms in Catasauqua and thoroughbred farm, Winterwood in Unionville, Pennsylvania, as well as Louisiana Stud in Lafayette, Louisiana, produced horses of national prominence; several in the AQHA and NRHA Hall of Fame, and an Eclipse Award Winner, a most prestigious award in thoroughbred venue. Fuller was a photographer of merit, his photographs appearing in numerous national magazines, Eastman Kodak ads, and at Epcot. He was an avid golfer and student of the game with memberships at Lehigh Country Club, Saucon Valley Country Club and Pine Valley Country Club, winning numerous tournaments. He was a philanthropist who gave anonymously to both local and national causes, particularly for the downtrodden as well as for the conservancy of our nation’s ecology. Surviving with his wife are son, Peter and his wife, Joan of Emmaus Pennsylvania; daughters Holly of Snowmass, Colorado and Victoria of Chicago, Illinois and five grandchildren, Nicole Fuller of Santa Barbara, California, Zachary Fuller of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Jeremiah Fuller of Miami, Florida, Travis McLain of Aspen Colorado and Afton McLain of Aspen, Colorado. Private services will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
