Obituaries

Catharine “Kitty” S. Dunn, 98, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully at her home cared for by her loving family on March 5, 2025. Formally of Catasauqua and born in Lancaster, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harold E. and Malinda (Shaub) Smith. She was the wife of the late Rev. H. Stanley Dunn with whom she shared 51 years of marriage prior to his passing in March of 2000.
Kitty received her bachelor’s degree from Hood College in 1947 and earned her master’s degree from Lehigh University in 1975. She was the founder and director of the Salem United Church of Christ Preschool Program for many years. She was also a guidance counselor for Sheckler Elementary School for 16 years, retiring in 1992.
She led an active life of service. She participated in many church activities, volunteered for CASA and AARP taxes, sang in the Bach Choir and Lehigh University Choral Union, ushered at Musikfest and at the Zoellner Arts Center, and was a Girl Scout leader, poll worker, bell choir director, and an avid blood donor. She will be remembered by all who knew and loved her for her kindness, wisdom, and compassion.
She is survived by son David H. and wife Karen of Bethlehem; daughters, Malinda K. of New York City, Melanie M. Dunn-Chadwick and husband Ken of Alexandria, Va.; 5 grandchildren (Leann Kennedy and husband PJ, Amanda Erney and husband Tom, Bryce Chadwick, Drew Chadwick, Beverly Chadwick) as well as 5 great grandchildren (Marshall Kennedy, Cayden Kennedy, Orion Erney, Melissa Erney, Zionnah Allen) who lovingly called her Grandma, Grammie, Bucca or Grandma Kitty, to which she always responded with great love; sister Martha Sperandio of Florida. She was predeceased by a daughter Melissa L. Kinder and her 3 sisters, Ann, Helen, and Barbara.
A service to celebrate Kitty’s life will take place on May 3, 2025 at Advent Moravian Church (3730 Jacksonville Rd., Bethlehem, PA.) at 11:00 am with calling hours from 10-11am.
