Obituary for Catherine "Katie" Haftel
Catherine “Katie” Haftel, a resident of Alexandria Manor in Bath since 2010, formerly of Catasauqua went to be with her Lord on Thursday May 24, 2012. Born Catherine Michalgyk on April 27, 1911 in the Bath area, she is survived by one sister, Pauline Dest of Bath. She married Paul Haftel in 1936 and they located to Catasauqua where they resided from 1943 until 2010. Her husband predeceased her in 1988 and brothers and sisters, Michael, John, Mary, Annie and Rose also have passed on. She is survived by four children, Warren and wife Judith of Valley Cottage, NY, Hazel and husband James Long of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Pauline and her husband, Walter Keays of Front Royal, Va., and Larry and companion Kim of Yulee, Florida. Catherine leaves eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. On her 100th birthday in 2011 Catherine said that the secret to a long life is hard work. She was employed as a weaver in the textile industry, and later with the ribbon manufacturing business for many years, Catherine was a devoted and active member of St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church in Catasauqua since 1943 where services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday May 26, with Pastor Gary L. Walbert officiating. Calling hours will be in the church from 12:00noon until 1:00pm Saturday. Interment will be at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Allentown. The Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. of Catasauqua is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name payable to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 417 Howertown Road Catasauqua, Pa. 18032.
