Obituary for Catherine "Sal" H. Zangl
Catherine “Sal” H. Zangl, 82, formerly of Catasauqua, died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Lehigh Valley Hospice in Allentown. She was the widow of Aloysius J. Zangl. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Ostheimer) Hodge. Catherine was member of St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church in North Catasauqua. She also belonged to the St. Andrew’s Young at Heart group. Catherine served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 215, Catasauqua. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, in charge of the Youth and Senior Citizens Bowling and served as a past Financial Officer within the Legion. Catherine was also the recipient of the Chapel of Four Chaplains service award and County of Lehigh & Office of Veterans Affairs Distinctive Service awards. Surviving are her children, sons: Donald of Catasauqua, Joe and his wife Lori of Hanover Township; daughter Julie and her husband John Paul Colby of West Barnstable, MA; son Michael of Whitehall; brother Gerald Hodge and his wife Jenny of Catasauqua; five grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. Catherine was preceded in death by a daughter Elizabeth in 1962 and by her companion Vincent Dougherty in 1997. Services will be held 11am Friday February 2, 2007 at St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church, 1001 2nd St. N. Catasauqua, 18032. Call from 7-8:30pm Thursday, February 1 and 9:30-10:30am Friday at the John H. Brubaker Funeral Home, 234 Walnut St. Catasauqua, 18032.
