Obituary for Charles H. Frey
Charles H. Frey, 82, of North Catasauqua died Thursday June 17, 2010 at his residence. He was the husband of Ferne J. (McQuillen) Frey. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage together. Born in Catasauqua, he was the son of the late Charles and Marie (Miller) Frey. Charles was a Final Inspection Section Chief for Western Electric Co. Allentown for over 33 years retiring in 1981. He was the proprietor of “Photography by Charlie” a photography studio in Catasauqua. He was a graduate of the School of Modern Photography, NY, Triangle Institute of Professional Photography, Pittsburgh, PA, Professional Photographer’s Society at the University of the New York College at Genesco, Winona International School of Professional Photography, Chicago, IL. He was a member of the Northeast Pennsylvania Professional Photographers Association, the Professional Photographers Association of Pennsylvania Inc., and the Professional Photographers of America Inc. He was a certified professional photographer, a special recognition given by the Professional Photographers of America, as well as being elected to the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain with the Distinction of Licentiateship in 1990, and named Photographer of the year 1990-1991 by the N.P.P.P.A. He has been awarded many achievement and exhibition certificates of merit by the Professional Photographers of American Inc., and had a number of his photographs accepted for display by the P.P.of A. at exhibitions throughout the USA. In addition he volunteered as photographer for the North Catasauqua and Catasauqua Fire Departments for many years. He was a member of Salem U.C.C. Catasauqua and for many years served as a deacon, elder, and trustee, as well as on a number of committees. He was named Elder Emeritus in 1995. He was a founding member as well as Past President, Vice President and secretary at “The All Travel Together Club” made up of former Western Electric employees and their spouses. He served as a drill instructor with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Catasauqua American Legion Post #215. Surviving along with his wife Ferne are his daughters Karla, wife of Terry Strohl of S. Carolina and Lori Ann, wife of Michael Molnar of Whitehall; grandchildren Erik Molnar and his wife Aneta of Emmaus, Kelsey Tranguch and her husband Vince of Emmaus; great grandchildren Sophia & Gabriela Tranguch and Emily Molnar. He was preceded in death by his daughter Tina Erney and sisters Jean Brown and Dorothy Steyert. Memorial services will be held at 7pm Tuesday June 22nd, 2010 at Salem U.C.C., 615 Third St., Catasauqua, 18032. Call from 6-7pm at the church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the church.
