Obituary for Constance B. Leidy
Constance B. Leidy, 82, of Epson, NH, formerly of New City, NY, passed away on January 27, 2015. Daughter of the late Rev. Charles W. and Harriet (Kuntzleman) Buffington, Connie attended schools in Sunbury and Souderton, PA. She earned her B.S. in music education at West Chester State Teacher's College in West Chester, PA. Connie and her then husband, Harold T. Leidy, lovingly raised their two children together in New City, NY. There, Connie taught music in the Clarkstown Public Schools, and later completed post-graduate studies, becoming a board certified music therapist in 1985. In addition to her devotion to her family, Connie had a long-life love of music. She found deep satisfaction providing music therapy to clients of all ages in a variety of settings, most recently at the Rockland Conservatory of Music, until 2011. She was also a member of the Rockland Choral Society where she sang soprano, and the Rockland County Concert Band, where she played clarinet for over 20 years. Connie's faith and spiritual growth were also central to her life. A member of the Church of Religious Science, she also attended the Unitarian Universalist Church of Concord, NH. She enjoyed watching the wildlife in her back yard in NY, and her pet cats were much loved companions. Connie was predeceased by her beloved son, Peter S. Leidy in 2011. She is survived by her daughter, Linda and husband Wade Hughston of Concord, NH; grandson Lee, wife Danielle and great-granddaughter, Lena Mae Hughston of Manchester, NH; cousins including John Houtz, Ruth Rene' and Charles Phelan, Jayne and Rox Moxey, Wendy and Bill Fendt and Betty Buffington. Others very important in her life include Harold T. and Colleen Leidy of Piermont, NY, Kelly Rose, Thomas Orapello Jr. and Katlin Reese, longtime friends Noreen Schnell, Arlene and Lee Hummel, Pat Courtwright, Joan Koppenhaver, Mary Lane, Eleanor Decker and May Schultz. A private burial will be held in April. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Rockland Conservatory of Music c/0 Connie Leidy Music Therapy Scholarships and mailed to: Rockland Conservatory of Music at 54 S. Pearl River, NY 10965. Donations can also be made at www.rocklandconservatory.org/giving and designated to the above scholarship.
