Obituaries
David C. Black, Age 90, of Emmaus PA, passed away on 19 April, 2024 at his home. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Russell L and Mildred R (Campbell) Black, and the husband of Eleanor (Milham) Black, with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage before her passing in Oct 2011.
David graduated from Allentown High School in 1951 and Penn State University in 1955. He also received a Master’s Degree from Columbia University in 1961. After college, he worked for Colgate Palmolive International for 6 years as an Industrial Engineer. He then was hired by M&M/Mars and worked for them in New Jersey, Holland, Australia, and Texas, becoming the Corporate Industrial Engineering Director in their National office before retiring in 1992 after 31 years with the company.
After retiring, he and his wife relocated to the Allentown area where they enjoyed traveling and visiting their grandchildren. He also had an avid interest in real estate and obtained several rental dwellings and second homes in Texas, North Myrtle Beach, SC, and Breckenridge, CO where he liked to snow ski every year.
After his wife’s passing in 2011, David developed a close relationship with a long-time friend, Marion McHugh, and they enjoyed vacationing and spending time together until the end.
He attended Asbury United Methodist Church in Allentown and will be remembered by his family as a loving role model who loved to garden and could fix anything.
David will be lovingly remembered by his two sons, William and his wife Marian of Coppell Texas, and Thomas and his wife Kerrie of Naperville, IL, and 6 grandchildren: Michael, Elizabeth, David, Karaline, Audrey, and Russell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Allentown, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown, PA, 18104. A calling period for family and friends will be held from 9-11 AM on April 25 at the church. Interment to follow at Grandview Cemetery in Allentown.
