Obituaries
David was a graduate of Whitehall High School and worked at LaFarge Cement as a control room operator (PCS) for over 30 years before his recent retirement in 2018.
David loved the outdoors and enjoyed watching both the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was an all-around great guy who enjoyed time with friends and relaxing on his deck while drinking a beer. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by sons, Anthony Derkits and wife Rosali of Northampton, and Benjamin Derkits and wife Jamie of Bath; sister, Marianne Sodl and husband James of Whitehall. He is also survived by many grandchildren nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, John Derkits, Bernadine Kloiber, and Tommy Derkits.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, May 1st, 2021 at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. 5th St., Coplay, PA 18037. A viewing will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, April 31st and from 8:30-9:30 AM on Saturday, May 1st at Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc., 327 Chestnut Street. Coplay, PA 18037.
Contributions may be made in David’s memory to the American Diabetes Association.
