Obituary for Donald A. "Deacon" Seyfried
Donald A. (Deacon) Seyfried, 81 years of N. Catasauqua passed peacefully Wednesday December 12, 2012 surrounded by his beloved family. Deacon and his wife Marie T. (Bock) Seyfried were blessed to celebrate 58 years of loving marriage June 12, 2012. He was the son of the late Francis C. and Helen M. (Quigg) Seyfried. His family was the center of Donald's life and love. He was a dedicated son and brother, loving husband, caring father and grandfather. Surviving with his wife are sons Craig, husband of Pamela (Gogle) Seyfried of Spring City, PA., and Dr. Donald M., husband of Dr. Jeanne Seyfried of Plymouth, MI.; and daughter Donna Marie Seyfried, wife of Robert Thomas of Laytonsville, MD., Also surviving Deacon are brother Francis Seyfried and sister Geraldine Szewczak. Donald has seven grandchildren; Craig F. Seyfried II and his wife Leandra , Lauren Seyfried, Don, Annie and Jenny Seyfried, and Deryn and Glenna Thomas. He is also survived by a step-sister Doris Flamish and nieces and nephews. Donald loved most traveling with his wife to visit their children and grandchildren. He was an enthusiastic nature lover who together with Marie enjoyed touring the many national parks throughout the country. Donald and Marie’s second homes were their family’s cabins in the Pocono and Adirondack mountains, where they treasured many wonderful times together fishing, kayaking and simply enjoying nature. Donald was a member of St. Mary's Church of the Annunciation B.V.M of Catasauqua and a former active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Catasauqua. He retired from the Bethlehem Steel Corp. after 37 dedicated years of service. A graduate of Catasauqua High School and Moravian College, Donald also served his country during the Korean War as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Throughout his lifetime Donald was a giving community citizen in Catasauqua. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Saturday December 15, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church Second and Union Streets Catasauqua. There will be a calling hour from 9:00am until 10:00am in the church.
