Obituary for Donald J. Peragallo
Donald J. Peragallo died November 19, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem at the age of 80. He was married to Donna Boyd Peragallo for 55 years. Surviving with his wife are a son, Jeffrey M. Peragallo of Annandale, NJ, granddaughter, Courtney, grandson, Tyler, sister, Barbara Fedor of West Chester, PA, her husband Stephen and nephews and nieces. Donald was born on Staten, Island, NY. He learned how to play piano at the age of 5 and at the age of 8 played the accordion for the troops at the USO clubs in New York City during World War 2. After graduating from Curtis High School he went on to graduate from Columbia University with a dual major; a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduation, he spent 2 years in the military stationed in Huntsville, AL working on the Redstone rocket program (the first US ballistic missile) under the leadership of Dr. Werner Von Braun (considered the “father of rocket science”). After being in the military, Don joined Bethlehem Steel where he held various positions in the Information Services Department and retired after 28 years. He filled his early retirement years with tennis, sailing, travel, and playing piano. Later he loved playing bridge. Don enjoyed so many things. Piano and music were his greatest passions. He had this unexplainable talent and ear for music, which seemed to flow out of him with ease. He really enjoyed live music and the highlight of each year for him was Musikfest (an event where he played piano for 2 years). One of the early members of the Bethlehem Wine Club, he amassed a knowledge and awareness of wine that was impressive, surrounding himself with good friends who were true wine-aficionados but his love of good food is what he really adored. There will be a private celebration of life in December. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity started by Don's deceased daughter-in-law, Dawn; Kids Connect Cancer Support Central NJ, 3 Crossroads Drive, Bedminster, NJ 07921 or via the web at www.cancersupportcnj.org.
