Obituary for Doris E. Gibson
Doris E. Gibson, 94 years, of Allentown died Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Phoebe Home in Allentown. She was the wife of the late William A. Gibson, Jr. and together they celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2014.
Born in Toronto, Doris lived and attended school in Hanover, Ontario, Canada. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist church in Allentown for over 70 years. Doris sang in the Asbury Church Choir for 40 years. Doris was deeply involved in the Women’s Club, serving as their Program Director and singing in their chorus. She was among the first Lay Pastoral Visitors and was an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary for Lehigh Valley Hospital at Cedar Crest. For many years Doris volunteered her time fundraising for the United Way and organizing the Allentown Symphony Ball, often handwriting hundreds of invitations for the event. Doris also enjoyed playing bridge and was involved with a number of different groups including one from Asbury.
Her family would like to express their appreciation for the care and compassion shown to Doris by the staff of Phoebe Home, the staff of Lehigh Valley Hospice and her caregivers Ashely and Cristina.
Surviving is her son Thomas D. Gibson, daughter Mariellen Gibson-Butler wife of Kenneth Butler of Doylestown and 3 grandchildren; Alex, Abigail and Michael Butler.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown, PA 18104. There will be a calling period in the Parlor at Asbury from 10:30am – 11:30am on Saturday, April 2nd prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made in her name payable to the church.
