Obituary for Douglas R. Holmes
Douglas R. Holmes, 74, of North Catasauqua, died Monday October 18, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara (Tolan) Holmes and celebrated 53 years of marriage this past June. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Kenneth Sr. and Thelma “Sis” (Gillespie) Holmes.
Doug graduated from Catasauqua High School in 1964 and went on to honorably serve his country in the Army, spending over a year in Vietnam. He was a hard worker and drove truck all his life. He retired from Tucker Burke Provisions Co. in Catasauqua. Prior to that he worked for the Phoenix Forge in Catasauqua and Mack Trucks in Allentown. Doug was a life long member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Whitehall. He was an active member of the CHS Booster Club where he served as president. He enjoyed spending time at Suburban North YMCA and playing pickle ball with friends.
Above all, Doug was a family man. He loved spending time with his wife and children and was his granddaughters biggest fan, cheering them on at their sporting events whenever he could. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving along with his wife Barbara are his son Todd Holmes and wife Gina; a brother Kenneth Holmes Jr. and wife Carol; and granddaughters Ella and Brooke Holmes. Doug was preceded in death by his daughter Tracy Holmes.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am Friday December 10, 2021 at Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 234 Walnut St. Catasauqua, PA 18032. There will be a calling period from 9:30-11am Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley at PCFLV.org.
