Obituary for Dr. Carl K. Newhart
Dr. Carl K. Newhart, 98, of Naples, Florida and Catasauqua, PA, passed away on February 21, 2021 at LVHN inpatient hospice, Allentown. He was married to Marlene G. (Edelman) Newhart for 35 years. Born in Hokendauqua, PA., he was the son of the late Dr. Carl J. Newhart and Norma (Knerr) Newhart.

He was a retired dentist, local business, and civic leader. A graduate of Whitehall High School, he was a member of the high school’s first marching band and later, he played professionally. An undergraduate of Muhlenberg College, he received his dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania. During World War II, he served as a navy dental officer and remained in the navy reserve for a total of 26 years, retiring as a Commander.
He was a past member of the scientific staff of the Allentown Hospital, past-president of Catasauqua School Board, past-president of Whitehall Exchange Club, past-president of Catasauqua Building and Loan Association, past-president of Catasauqua Chamber of Commerce, original trustee, and past-treasurer of Lehigh-Carbon Community College. He was director of Cement National Bank and a member of the associate Board of Pittsburgh National Bank. Past chairman of Catasauqua civil service commission, and a member of the American Legion.

He was a Mason and a member of Glen Eagle Golf and CC, Naples, Florida. He loved playing golf; shot his age several times and had 2 holes in one. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Naples and a member of the Retired Officers Association of Naples.

Survivors: Sons, Alan K. of Dunedin, Florida; Dr. Scott G. of Idaho; Kent C. of Whitehall and Brian J., Kingsport, Tennessee.; brother, Richard of Cooper City, Florida, granddaughters; Alice O’Brien, Heidi Hankins, Jessica Newhart, Jennifer Newhart, step grandchildren; Todd and Damian Newhart and six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, March 5, 2021 at the Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 327 Chestnut Street, Coplay, PA. 18037. Calling period from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., with a service at 11:00 a.m.

Memorial Contributions in Dr. Newhart’s memory may be made to the Catasauqua Library 302 Bridge St, Catasauqua, PA 18032 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105, care of the funeral home.
