Obituary for Dr. Helen L. Hopkins
Dr. Helen L. Hopkins, 86 of Macungie died Thursday, February 15, 2007 at her residence. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mildred (Graffin) Hopkins. Helen was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Allentown and had served as their parish nurse. Helen received her Bachelor’s degree from West Chester Teachers College in 1942, her Masters degree from New York University in 1958 and PhD in Occupational Therapy from Temple University in 1979. She also attended the Philadelphia School of Occupational Therapy, becoming a certified therapist in 1947. She was named Professor Emeritus at Temple University, was very active with Temple’s scholarship programs and remained affiliated with Temple for over 21 years. Helen co-edited Willard & Spackmans book of Occupational Therapy for four consecutive editions and served as a past treasurer and executive board member of the American Occupational Therapy Association. Surviving are her sister Grace and her husband Clyde Buchman with whom Helen resided in Macungie. She is preceded in death by her sister Marion Hopkins. Services will be held 2pm Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Asbury Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Rd., Allentown. Call from 1-2pm at the church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to the church. Arrangements by the John H. Brubaker Funeral Home in Catasauqua.
