Obituary for Dr, Michael J. Stamatakos
Dr. Michael J. Stamatakos, 90 years of Allentown, died Saturday, February 8th, 2014 at his residence at Luthercrest Apartments. He was the husband of Dorothy H. (Schuster) Stamatakos and celebrated 58 years of marriage in 2013. Born in Kingston N.Y., he was the son of the late John and Helen (Larios) Stamatakos. Michael was a Doctor of Radiology with over 50 years of service at Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown. He received his pre-med education at the University of Pennsylvania and attended medical school at Hahnemann University Hospital graduating in the Class of 1953. He was awarded the Teacher of the Year in the Department of Radiology at Sacred Heart in 1977. Michael was awarded the Lehigh County Medical Society Physician of the Year award in 1986. Michael was a member of the Sacred Heart Hospital Foundation Board and Chairman from 2006 to 2008. He was a WWII Army veteran serving in Southeast Asia. Surviving along with his wife Dorothy are his children, sons Michael and John Stamatakos and daughters Elena Ramirez and Carol Miller; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm Saturday, March 1st, 2014 in Crest Hall at Luther Crest, 800 Hausman Road, Allentown, 18104. The family will be receiving guests at Crest Hall from 1-2pm, prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Sacred Heart Hospital Foundation care of the Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 234 Walnut St. Catasauqua, 18032.
