Obituary for Ernest "Ernie" P. Hoenl
Ernest P. “Ernie” Hoenl, 92, of Allentown, formally of Coplay, passed away at Mosser Nursing Home in Trexlertown January 14, 2022. He was the loving husband of Elsie (Hoanzl) Hoenl who passed away in 2018. He was the son of the late Ernest Sr. and Mary (Kulowitsch) Hoenl.
Ernie played trumpet for the Allentown Band and Pioneer Band. He proudly served his country as a drill sergeant in the US Army stationed at Fort Hood, TX during the Korean War where he was 1st Armored Division pistol champion. He was employed by A.A. Peters Inc. as a district sales representative. Ernie was president of Coplay Rotary Club with 40 years of perfect attendance, attending meetings even while traveling in Europe and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was president of Whitehall AARP 3115 and a member of Lehigh Valley and Suburban Trapshooting League. Ernie enjoyed golfing, photography, storytelling and designing greeting cards for friends and family during his later years.
Survivors: daughter Jane Suhocki (Raymond) of Macungie, son Thomas Hoenl (Sandra) of Whitehall, grandsons Derek Kulhamer (Amanda), Matthew Hoenl (Tessa), Aaron Hoenl (Miranda), Nathan Hoenl, granddaughter Jenna Pettinelli (Michael), great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Dominic, Kiersten, Cecilia, Maeve, Francesca, Hailey, Miles, and Elsie. Brother-in-law Samuel Hoanzl (Faye), niece, nephew and the extended Suhocki family.
Service: A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc., 327 Chestnut St., Coplay, PA 18037. A visitation will be held from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Coplay Cemetery.
