Obituary for Esther P. Grammes

Esther Ruth Peters Dougherty Grammes returned to her Lord on March 27, 2023, after 98 years of warmth, love, and adventure in this life. Esther was a long-time resident of Coplay, Hokendaqua, and Allentown, Pennsylvania, and a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Coplay, where she served as mentor for the youth group of the church for many years. She spent her final years in Dallas, Pennsylvania, to be close to her niece Emilie Louise.

God blessed her with many healthy years on this Earth, and some of her favorite ways to spend that time were with her loved ones, traveling, visiting the beach, playing pinochle, attending church services, and shopping at Macy’s. She loved a good glass of Cabernet and chicken marsala, she always had a smile on her face, and she would easily have you laughing so hard you would be crying. She loved her family more than anything in the world, referring always to her “little sweethearts.” She had countless dear friends in her community on whose life she had a lasting, delightful impact.

Esther is now at last reunited with her parents Harold and Verna (Trively) Peters, her beloved brother David, her aunts Ruth and Esther, as well as her dear husbands John Dougherty and Harry Grammes, and cherished partner, Lewis Balliet, all of whom she missed very much for many years. Surviving her and cherishing many years of special memories are “Davey’s kids,” her nieces Sara Jane Berry (Montoursville PA), Emilie Louise Peters (Dallas PA), Holly Christine Hirst (Boone NC), and her nephews David John Harold Peters (Spring TX) and Jeffrey Allen Peters (Boiling Springs PA). Also surviving are stepson Wayne Grammes (Miami FL), and 18 great and great-great nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023  from 12-1:45 PM at Brubaker Funeral Home, 327 Chestnut St., Coplay, PA. 18037. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:45 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
