Gilberto “Gil” Resto, Sr., 89, of Allentown, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Carlos Resto and Mercedes (Valentin) Resto.
He was the husband of Dawnie (Zellers) Resto and would have celebrated 44 years of marriage this September.
At the age of 17 years old, Gil enlisted in the United States Army. During the Korean War he was stationed for 2 years in Germany in the 322nd Tank Battalion and then served an additional 6 years honorably in the Army Reserves. He would later work at Dixie Manufacturing in N.J. before moving to Allentown where he would retire after 31 years as a 1st Class Welder/Fitter for Fuller/ FL Smidth Company. Gil was a proud American who loved his family, his many rescued cats and dogs and was an avid fan of the New York Mets.
As a man with great integrity, Gil installed a hard work ethic in his children and was especially proud of all of their accomplishments. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dawnie, sons; Gilberto Resto and wife Noemi, Luis Resto and wife Tonya, Gilberto Resto, Jr. and wife Barbara, James Geiger Sr. and wife Darlene; daughters, Maria Resto-Acevedo, Louann Lower, fourteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. He will especially be missed by his youngest grandson, Jackson Resto. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sharon Fox and brothers, Carlos and Antonio.
There will be a visitation at Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc 234 Walnut Street, Catasauqua, PA. 18032 from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2023. A funeral service officiated by Rev. Brian Riedy will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Allentown.
