Obituary for Glen Julian Stine
Glen Julian Stine, 90, of Catasauqua, passed away quietly at his long time home in Catasauqua on August 22. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eleanor “Peg” Stine. Born in 1921 in Allentown, he was the son of the late Ellen M. Smith and Titus William Stine. He attended Liberty High School and Lehigh University. Glen retired from Bethlehem Steel where he worked for 37 years, many in the No 3 Forge Specialty Department. During World War II he served in the Army Airways Communication System. Glen was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, a member of the Shade Tree Commission, a volunteer for the Catasauqua Ambulance Corps and Meals on Wheels. He also supported his wife Peg in her many civic activities. Glen enjoyed fixing things, gardening, playing his harmonica, camping with his family, hunting with his nephews, traveling the country, and winters in Florida. Survivors: Three sons, William Stine and his wife Sandra (Hobday) Stine of Lancaster, Glen Michael Stine of Sutton, VT, and Charles Stine and his wife Sharon (Schaller) Stine of Whitehall; three daughters, Ellen Stine Miller and her husband Wayne Miller of Odenton, MD, Elizabeth (Betsy) Zanzinger of Glenside, Margaret Stine and her partner Marcia McElvain of Seattle, WA, plus honorary daughter Bindiya Bhalla of Acton, MA; two grandchildren, Jade Stine Edwards and her husband Nigel Edwards of Raleigh, NC, and Zachary Stine and his wife Elizabeth (Powers) Stine of West Warwick, RI; two honorary grandchildren, Sunindiya Bhalla of Acton, MA and Rohit Bhalla and his wife Maya of Mountainview, CA; four great-grandchildren, Imogen Edwards, Oliver Edwards, Julia Stine, and Avery Stine. He is survived by his sister Julia Stine of Bethlehem. He was predeceased by his brother Harold Stine and his sisters Levada Stine and Florence Stine Klinger. Services: A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 4, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 19th and Lincoln Ave., Northampton, 18067 with an opportunity to greet the family in the hour prior to the service. A reception will follow the service at the home of Dale and Shirley Edwards, 846 Locust Street, Catasauqua. A private interment will be held at Bethlehem Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Catasauqua Shade Tree Commission or a charity of your choosing. Arrangements are entrusted to Brubaker Funeral Home Inc. of Catasauqua.
