Godfred “Moonie”A. Sodl, 89, formerly of Coplay, died peacefully on November 2, 2024, at Homewood Retirement Center in Martinsburg. Born in Stiles, he was a son of the late Stephen and Mary (Yost) Sodl.
He was the husband of the late Theresa G. (Gerenscer) Sodl for 46 years before her passing in 2010. Godfred retired from the former Exide Battery Co. of Allentown after working for 34 years in their maintenance department.
He honorably served his country in the Army and was a member of the Egypt V.F.W. Post 7293. Moonie was a lifetime member of the West Coplay Maennerchor and the Coplay Saengerbund. Godfred was catholic and attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Whitehall.
He is survived by his daughter Maribeth Mills and her husband Paul, grandchildren Tobin Mills and his wife Alexsandra, Abigail Willett and her husband Nicholas, and Dylan Mills, great grandson Victor Mills, sister Margaret Malitsch and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Rose Csenesitz, Theresa Bretz, Helen Weiner, Sister Mary Sodl, and brothers Stephen, Albert, and Edmund.
His viewing will be from 11-1pm, Friday, November 8, 2024, at Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 327 Chestnut St. Coplay, PA, 18037. Funeral service at 1pm Friday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Whitehall. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
