Obituary for Helen Schwarz
Helen Schwarz 87 of Kirkland Village Bethlehem formerly of Allentown died Monday September 29, 2008 in Kirkland Village. She was married in the Catasauqua Presbyterian September 11 1948 to her husband of 60 years Robert L. Schwarz. Born in Catasauqua she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jenny (Edgar) McKeever. Helen was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allentown where she was a former Sunday school teacher and served on various committees. She was a graduate of Catasauqua High School class of 1939 and earned a BA in English from Wilson College, Chambersburg. Helen then taught in the Emmaus High School, Catasauqua High School and the Parkland High School for many years before retiring. Helen was an avid swimmer and won many fifty mile swim competitions at the Westwood Heights Swim Club, Allentown. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, bridge and tennis with her friends. Helen especially enjoyed traveling with her husband to the Duke basketball games going as far as Hawaii, Alaska, China and Japan. Surviving with her husband are daughters Gretchen Schwarz and Holly Schwarz Dykes. There are five grandchildren, Simon, Ethan, Lindsay, Laura and Nathan. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Thursday October 2 in Kirkland Village Auditorium One Kirkland Village Circle Bethlehem, Pa. 18017. A calling period will be from 11:30am until 1:00pm Thursday in the Kirkland Village Auditorium. Memorial contributions may be given to the Sacred Heart Hospice 2268 S. 12th Street Suite 404 Allentown, Pa. 18103. The Brubaker Funeral Home,Inc. of Catasauqua is in charge of arrangements.
