Obituaries
He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps in World War II, flying with the 1st Marine Air Wing, Marine Air Group 32, in the Philippines and Okinawa and, after the surrender of Japan, in China until 1946. Herb continued serving in the Marines Corps Reserves for several years after the war. He attended Lebanon Valley College on the G.I. Bill, graduating in 1951. He then went to work for Pennsylvania Power & Light Company as a Customer Relations Specialist, where he remained until his retirement in 1989. In 1953, Herb married Jessica Lightner, to whom he remained married for more than 61 years until her death in 2014. Herb was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church for 56 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Linn Dries, of Emmaus, a son, Mark L. Booz, of Winston-Salem, N.C., a sister, Nancy Radel of Harrisburg, four granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Herb’s life will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Rd., Allentown, Pa., 18104, on Monday, September 26, 2016, at 10:30 a.m.. A calling hour will begin at 9:30 a.m. A burial service with full military honors will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pa.
Semper Fidelis –“always faithful” was the motto of Herb’s life. He was faithful to his family, his country, and God. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Semper Fi Fund, which provides a variety of programs to assist wounded veterans in all branches of the United States Armed Forces.
