Obituary for James Curtis Short
James C. “Curtis” Short 83 years died peacefully in his home in Whitehall with his family at his bedside. He was the husband of Virginia Claire (Rippel) Short and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary October 12, 2006. Born in Allentown he was the son of the late Harry B. and Sally (Harley) Short. James was a 1941 Allentown High School graduate and a Penn State University graduate class of 1949 where he played tennis. He was an avid tennis played and won the Allentown Men’s singles championship in 1939 and the city’s double championship in 1941. He also graduated from the Maritime Academy at Kings Point and served in the Merchants Marines as a navigator during WWII. James retired from the Fuller Co. of Catasauqua in 1982 after many years of service and enjoyed attending retirees’ breakfasts and playing golf. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Allentown and a member of Greenleaf Lodge F & AM # 561 Allentown. Surviving with his wife are daughter Virginia wife of William Geist, son Robert C. Husband of Davina Short, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Barry Lee Short and brothers Robert Harley and George Burton Short. Memorial services will be 11:00am Wednesday in the Asbury United Methodist Church 1533 Springhouse Road Allentown, Pa. 18104. Call 10:00am until 11:00am in the church. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the church. The John H. Brubaker Funeral Home of Catasauqua is in charge of arrangements.
