Obituary for James E. Kerns
James E. Kerns, 87, of Coplay, passed away December 6, 2014 in Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. He was married to the late Joan D. (Pry)Kerns. Born in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Patrick F. and Minnie C. (Schierhoff)Kerns of Darkwater, PA. A WWII naval veteran, he was a postal worker for many years until retirement. For much of his life, Jim was the sole caretaker for his beloved wife, Joan and his son, Matthew. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whitehall. Survivors: Son, Matthew of Allentown; brothers, Donald, Thomas, Jack, and Brother Brian, of the Trappist Monks; granddaughter, Kassie; nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Eric, a brother, Patrick; a siater, Rosemary Shaw. James's large and loving family will forever miss his cowboy hat, pipe, his mischievous smile as well as his trademark greeting of "Hiya Charlie" Services: Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2014, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 3024 S. Ruch St., Whitehall preceded by a viewing from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the church. Contributions: In lieu of flowers to the Good Shepherd Home c/o the Robert A.
