Obituary for James "Jim" R. Knittle

James “Jim” R. Knittle, 71, of Whitehall, passed away surrounded by his family on December 19, 2022, at Lehigh Valley Hospital- Cedar Crest. He was the beloved husband of Colotta S. (Schramel) Knittle for 52 beautiful years. They celebrated their anniversary this past November the 8th. He was the son of the late Earl and Mabel (Bonser) Knittle.


Jim was a graduate of Northwestern Lehigh High School. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran who honorably served his county during the Vietnam War from 1972-1974 where he was stationed in Germany for most of his tour. He worked as a machine operator for over 39 years at Nestlé Purina PetCare Company in South Whitehall before his retirement. He was also a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Whitehall.


Jim loved to listen to heavy metal and was a lifelong fan of NASCAR. Above all, he was a loving husband and devoted father. He was an all-around good man who was known for putting other’s needs before his own. He always made sure his family was taken care of and will be truly missed by all who knew him.


Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Colotta of Whitehall; children James A. Knittle of Whitehall; Crystal A., wife of Irlis Rapose of Bethlehem; and Jeff A. Knittle and wife Catherine of South Whitehall; grandchildren, Brandon I. Rapose and Tyler M. Rapose both of Tampa, FL; siblings, Sandra White of Lehigh Furnace, David Knittle of Lansford, Dean Knittle of Slatington, and Dale Knittle of New Tripoli. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Marie Detrick and Shirley White.


A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc., 327 Chestnut St., Coplay, PA 18037. A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM in the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.brubakerfuneralhome.com.
