Obituary for Jean Lorraine Shoemaker
Jean Lorraine (Buss) Shoemaker, 92, died Thursday October 26, 2017 in Allentown. She was the widow of the late Alvin Albert Shoemaker. Born in Schoenersville, Pa. she was the daughter of the late Herman and Jennie (Saylor) Buss.
Jean was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Catasauqua. She was a Registered Nurse for 10 years before retiring having worked at the Allentown State Hospital. Jean was a graduate of the Allentown Hospital School of Nursing and when she lived in Bethlehem she was the secretary of the PTA for the Bethlehem Area School District. Jean had served her country as a cadet in the Army Nursing Corps during WWII.
Surviving are her son Alvin “Chuck” Shoemaker III, daughters Jayne Beth Shoemaker, Patti Abbott wife of Thomas, and Kim Pierce wife of Gene; sisters Marion Ackley and Sandra Wescoe; grandchildren Josh, Peter and Michelle, Jon, Rebekah, Emily and Alex and Kathryn, great grandchildren Maddison, Peter II, and Malachi, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Dale, Robert and Larry.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Tuesday October 31, 2017 in the Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 234 Walnut Street Catasauqua, Pa. 18032. Her viewing will be held at 7-8:30 pm Monday October 30, and from 10-11am Tuesday October 31 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in her name payable to the Therapeutic Recreation Department, care of Sue Moyer, 350 S. Cedarbrook Drive, Allentown, 18104.
