Obituary for Jessica Lightner Booz
Jessica Lightner Booz, 85 years of Allentown died Saturday August 23, 2014. Born in Marysville, PA. she was the daughter of the late Linn C. Lightner and Mary (Deckard) Lightner. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Herbert L. Booz, and daughter Kathy Linn Dries (Wayne) of Emmaus, son Mark L. Booz (Deborah) of Winston-Salem, NC, and brother, Linn S. Lightner of Camp Hill. She is also survived by her 4 granddaughters, Becky and Katie Dries, Maggie and Annie Booz, who were the joys of her life; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, MaryLou. Jessica graduated from Penn State in 1951 and went on to teach first grade In Harrisburg for 3 years. She returned to teaching kindergarten in 1964 at Kratzer Elementary School in the Parkland School District where she remained for 27 years, retiring in 1991. Jessica loved teaching and truly believed, as the book is titled, “All I Really Need to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten” Jessica was a devoted member of Asbury United Methodist Church for 54 years. She served in many positions at the church, including as the Sunday School Superintendent. Jessica’s prescription for a happy, contented retirement was “to do as much as you can, for as many as you can, for as long as you can.” After her retirement, she volunteered at an after school program for Center City Ministries. Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday August 30th in Asbury United Methodist Church 1533 Springhouse Road Allentown 18104. Call 10:00am until 11:00am Saturday in the church parlor. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lehigh County Conference of Churches, 534 Chew St., Allentown, PA 18102 for the purpose of supporting the conference’s programs that directly benefit children.
