Obituary for Joan L. Rodgers
Joan L. Rodgers, 89, a lifelong resident of Catasauqua, died Tuesday May 9, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. At a young age, Joan won the fight against cancer more than once, but succumbed to it after yet another recent battle.
Born in Catasauqua, she was a daughter of the late John and Loretta (Klingler) O'Mara. Joan was the wife of Larry Rodgers and would have celebrated 68 years of marriage this June. Joan’s greatest love was of family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Annunciation BVM Church of Catasauqua and was a devout Catholic all her life. Joan did extensive volunteer work for her church, school, and community. Three institutions that were dear to her heart were the former St. Mary's Church and School in Catasauqua, Allentown Central Catholic High School, especially her class of 1951 and the Allentown Sacred Heart School of Nursing. Nursing was a calling for Joan. She worked as a nurse for Sacred Heart Hospital and later for a local family practice physician.
Surviving with her husband Larry are her son Mark Rodgers and wife Mary; daughter Lisa Pillon and husband Mark; grandchildren Abigail (Pillon) Bavis and husband Alex; Jonathan Pillon and wife Alexandra; Amy Rodgers; and Michael Rodgers. She was preceded in death by her brother Jack O'Mara.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am Friday May 12, 2023, at St. Mary's Church, 122 Union Street, Catasauqua, PA 18032. A calling period will be held from 9-10am Friday at the church. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
