Obituary for John F. Sipics
John F. Sipics, 59, of Allentown, died January 19, 2008. He was born in Northampton, the son of Ignatius and Mary (Serensits) Sipics, of Northampton. John is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 36 years, Diane (Walakovits) Sipics. John was a graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School and remained an active supporter of his alma mater. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University, where he also served as an adjunct lecturer for six years. Since joining the congregation in 1973, he remained involved with St. Mary’s Church of the Annunciation B.V.M. Catholic Church in Catasauqua through his service as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and a key member of the parish finance committee. Golf was his passion, and he loved to share this enthusiasm with his wife, family, friends, and coworkers. John retired from PPL in January 2007, after a successful 37 year career. He was the President of PPL Electric Utilities from 2003 until his retirement. He also served as Vice President-Asset Management , Vice President-Regulatory Support, and Vice President-Delivery Services, among many other positions throughout the company. He joined PPL in 1970 as an engineer in the System Planning Department. John was also an active member of key industry associations, including the Transmission Owners Administrative Committee of the PJM regional power tool, and a past member of PJM’s management committee. He was on the board of the Energy Association of Pennsylvania and on the board of one of eight regional councils that make up the North American Reliability Council. An active member of the community, John served on the board for the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, on the Pennsylvania Economy League’s board of directors and its Central Division board of governors, and on the board of the Team Pennsylvania Foundation. Surviving with his wife are children, Kristen, wife of Christopher Kulp, of Souderton, PA; Michael, husband of Deborah, of Macungie, PA; Jennifer, wife of Art Innamorato, of Twinsburg, OH; Grandchildren, Josh, Steph, Alex, Matt, Allie, and Lauren; Parents, Ignatius and Mary (Serensits) of Northampton; Brothers, James, Joseph, and Stephen, all of Catasauqua; Sister, Mary Jean, wife of William Possanza, of Northampton. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at St. Mary’s Church of the Annunciation B.V.M. Catholic Church, 122 Union Street, Catasauqua. A calling period 7:00-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 22 and also 8:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the John H. Brubaker Funeral Home, 234 Walnut St, Catasauqua. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his name to the St. Mary’s Endowment Fund, 122 Union St., Catasauqua, PA 18032.
