Obituary for John J."Hank" Herman
John J. “Hank” Herman 89 years of Cedarbrook Fountain Hill formerly of Catasauqua died Friday July 11, 2008 in St. Luke’s Hospital Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Jessie A. (Saul) Herman and the companion to the late Daisy A. Moyer of Catasauqua. John was employed as a Catasauqua Borough worker for 16 years before retiring in 1982 and was previously employed as a Kettleman for the former Old Dutch Brewery of Catasauqua for 26 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Catasauqua and a member of the Catasauqua American Legion Post 215. An Army veteran of WWII John landed on Utah Beach on D-Day and served in the 4th Medical Battalion as an ambulance driver in the Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe Campaigns and received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Service Arrowhead and five Bronze Star medals. Surviving are nephews and nieces and care given Barbara Hoffman. Funeral services will be 10:00am Wednesday July 16 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Second and Union Streets Catasauqua. Call 9:00am until 10:00am Wednesday in the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the church. The Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. of Catasauqua is in charge of arrangements.
