Obituaries
John served his country with the 511 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division in the South Pacific Theater. He was the proud recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
John was employed at the Bethlehem Steel in the armored plated division as an inspector of layouts of armor. After serving in the military, John studied hair styling with M. Louis in New York City. He worked in the hair salon at Hess’s Department Store for 12 years before opening his own business. John owned and operated Mr. John’s Beauty Salon for 43 years until retiring in 1986.
John was a member of the Knights of Columbus – 4th degree, Bishop Welsh Assembly #931, where he served as Faithful Navigator and as the sick and welfare chairman for 23 years. He was a life member of the V.F.W. 4714, Northampton, PA.; member of the Friendly Fifties and member of Coplay Saengerbund.
Survivors besides his wife, daughter Eugenia Emert, wife of Harvey Emert, Catasauqua, PA.; sons, Dr. John N. Menio and wife Mary of Shavertown, PA. and Dr. Gregory Menio and wife Dr. Elizabeth Menio of East Stroudsburg, PA., sister Julia Panick of Hellertown, PA. John has nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Walter, Alexander and Peter.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020, 8:30 a.m.– 9:30 a.m. at Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 327 Chestnut Street Coplay, PA. 18037, followed by Divine Liturgy at the Saint John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1343 Newport Avenue, Northampton, PA. A burial with Military Honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Northampton. Church and grave service will be streamed live on the Church’s Facebook Page.
