Obituaries
After high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and honorably served his nation from 1955-1957. He was employed by General Electric until they closed and later worked at Luther Crest Retirement in the security department.
John enjoyed fishing, hunting and trap shooting. He enjoyed sports and especially loved to watch the Phillies. He was a lifelong member of the Guthsville Rod & Gun Club and also belonged to the Tri-Boro Sportsmen Club.
John was a loving husband and doting father. He enjoyed quality time with his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving along with his wife are his son; Michael J. Gontkosky; brothers Robert Gontkosky and wife Carol; and Leo Gontkosky and wife Gloria. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Maryanne Kohlhauser.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at St. Peter’s R.C. Church 4 S. 5th St., Coplay, PA, 18037. A viewing will be held from 09:30 A.M.-10:15 A.M. in the church. Interment will follow at parish cemetery. We ask that all in attendance adhere to social distancing guidelines and wear facial covering.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Peter’s Church at the above address.
