Obituary for John T. Lynch
John T. Lynch, 85, of Northampton, passed away on September 5, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Hospice in Allentown. He was the beloved husband of JoAnne (Privuznak) Lynch for 57 years. They would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this October the 26th. Born in Paterson, NJ, he was the son of the late Joseph M. and Regina C. (Van Houten) Lynch.

John was a 1953 graduate of Lodi High School in Bergen County, NJ. He went on to serve his country in the Army National Guard. He spent his working years as a stationary engineer and was a master at his trade. John was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 68, for over 50 years. He attained the highest achievement by earning four seals from the Department of Labor and Industry. John proudly earned the Black Fireman license seal and the Blue, Red, and Gold Engineer license seals. He spent most of his career employed by Garden State Paper in Garfield, NJ, retiring as a Chief Power Engineer in September of 2000.

John was an exceptional athlete. He loved participating in all sports including golfing, dart throwing, pool, boogie boarding, and especially baseball. Being a left hander, John could only play first base, outfielder, or pitcher. He was called by the Cleveland Indians to play for the Reading Team in Pennsylvania, a double AA class ball club. He played baseball in the North Jersey League, which featured players from the Minor League, former major leaguers and a number of upcoming future stars. John ended his career with a batting average well over .300, with a career high of .468. John’s favorite place to enjoy quality time with loved ones was the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Above all, John was a family man who adored his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and Pops. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his loving wife, JoAnne, he is survived by three daughters: Jennifer (Joseph) DeMeglio of Shickshinny; Tara (Paul) Leahy of Sweet Valley; and Melissa (Joe) Marion of Somerville, NJ; grandchildren: Chelsea DeMeglio and fiancé, Karl, Meghan DeMeglio, Shauna Leahy, Andrew Leahy, and Emily Leahy. He is survived by sister, Carol, wife of Gene Famula of Holmdel, NJ; sisters-in-law, Louise DeStories of AZ; and Marianne O’Connell of NJ; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved Danny Boy. John was also a faithful member of St. John Fisher Roman Catholic Church in Catasauqua.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, September 10, 2021, at St. John Fisher RCC, 1239 3rd St, Catasauqua, PA 18032. A visitation will be held from 9-11 AM in the church.
