Obituary for Louise E. Holko
Louise E. Holko, 91, of Fellowship Manor, Whitehall peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of the late John A. Holko. Born in Catasauqua on October 13, 1921, she was the oldest daughter of the late John (“Dick”) and Elizabeth (Burda) Balik and sister of the late Irene M. Hartman, wife of Donald Hartman of Hellertown. Her first job was removing knots from ribbon at the General Ribbon Mills. After graduating from Catasauqua High School, she left Catasauqua for Washington, D.C. to work for the Federal government in a clerical position during World War II. She and her husband resided in Catasauqua after the war and later moved to Bethlehem. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, North Catasauqua and Notre Dame Catholic Church, Bethlehem. Louise also worked as a bill of lading clerk for Perkiomen Transport and beginning in 1970, as a graphics analyst for ComCom Inc., Allentown. She retired in 1986 from that position and resided afterward in Catasauqua, Bloomsburg, Macungie and Allentown. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her family, road trips, historical sites and museums. Just as her parents before her, Louise gave her children and grandchildren an appreciation for the wonder and joy of life. Louise was the mother of four children: Teresa (Tessa) wife of James Stillman of Lawrenceville, N.J.; Christina (Tina), wife of Jeffrey Boldt of Muscatine, IA; John A. Holko Jr. of Catasauqua who preceded her in death and Joseph, husband of Ginger (Andersen) Holko of Allentown. She had four grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as “Blu”: Stephen Croll, husband of Beth Caylor Croll of Garland, TX, Madelaine Berg of Jacksonville, FL, Taylor and his sister Emily Holko of Allentown. Her funeral mass will be 10:00am Tuesday April 2, 2013 in St. Andrew’s Catholic Church 1229 Third Street N. Catasauqua. Call 7:00pm until 8:30pm Monday April 1, 2013 in the Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 234 Walnut Street Catasauqua. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name payable to the Catasauqua Library P.O. Box 127 Catasauqua, Pa. 18032.
