Obituary for Lucy Rhoads
Lucy Rhoads, 95 years, formally of Whitehall, PA passed away peacefully in Hospice care at Cedarbrook Nursing Home on Friday, January 29th. She was the wife of the late Alfred C. Rhoads, Sr for 65 years until his death in 2003. She was born on June 28, 1920 in Gabelsville, PA and was the daughter of the late Mary (Himmelreich) and Walter Moyer.
Lucy was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Whitehall for many years. She was a graduate of Boyertown High School class of 1938. Lucy was employed by the former Fuller Sportswear Company in Fullerton for over 30 years.
She is survived by three children: Alfred Jr. and wife Debbie of Catasauqua, Gloria James (wife of the late Nelson James) and companion of Paul Grube of Lenhartsville, and Barbara wife of Harold Ziegler of Whitehall.
Ten grandchildren: Jeff, Greg and Rodney James, Glenn Rhoads, Lisa Doddy, Sean McKelley, Brian, Douglas and Scott Wolfe and Kathy Burt. 4 step-grandchildren: William Ziegler, Darlene Kocher, Rose Borger and Tammy Kita. 22 great-grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren. 4 great-great-grandchildren and 13 step great-great grandchildren. Sister, Eva Godshall of Red Hill, and many nieces and nephews and their children. She was predeceased by brother, Walter Moyer, step brother, Eli Moyer and step sisters Mary Landis, Hannah Sweinhart, and Anna Booth and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Martha Sipe at 11am at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 835 Third St., Whitehall, 18052. Family and friends are invited to call from 10:00 to 11:00 in the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the church for the youth group functions or choir music. Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. of Catasauqua are handling the arrangements.
