Obituaries
Malcolm ("Mal") R. Roach, Jr. passed away at the age of 91 on October 1, 2022 at Fellowship Community in Whitehall, PA. He was the son of the late Malcolm, Sr. and Anna Roach; graduated from William Allen High School in 1949 and was married for 71 years to his high school sweetheart, Eleanor (nee Palmer). They lived in Allentown until 1995 when they moved to Long Neck, DE, then retired in Vero Beach, FL, and most recently lived in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall, PA.
Those surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Eleanor, living in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall, PA; son, Dennis and his wife, Carol (nee York), living in Catasauqua, PA; son, Duane, living in Emmaus, PA; granddaughter, Stephanie Ann Riggins, her husband, Dan, and great-granddaughter, Lydia, living in Christiansburg, VA; and granddaughter, Melissa Roach, living in Denver, CO. His brother, Jay, of Ruskin, FL, succeeded him in death.
Mal was proud of his service to his country, having served in the USAF, Northeast Air Defense and 2nd Air Force Strategic Air Command during the Korean conflict, and retired with 41 years of service from PA Power & Light Co., Allentown, as Safety Consultant of the Lehigh Division.
He is a former member, deacon, and elder of Western Salisbury United Church of Christ in Allentown; served as President and was on the Board of Directors since the inception of and for 17 continuing years of the Alton Park Youth League in Allentown, PA; was the first member of the Marsh Island Golf Club in Lewes, DE, until the move to FL. While living in Vero Beach, FL, he served as past President and Director of the Vista Plantation Condo Association; volunteered and was an Associate Member of the Indian River Medical Center Auxiliary; volunteered at the Military Victory Store; and served on the Vero Beach Utility Commission.
A private graveside gathering will be held at the Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church of Christ cemetery in Allentown, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for any contributions made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. of Catasauqua is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
