Obituaries
Maria A. Bauer, 80, formerly of Whitehall, passed away on February 27, 2023, at ManorCare in Bethlehem. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles J. Bauer who passed away in March of 2014. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Antoinette (DeLuca) Camody.
Maria was a 1960 graduate of Central Catholic High School and went on to further her education at Bell Business School. She then was employed at Bell Atlantic as a telephone operator. She worked as an administrative partner at Lehigh Valley Hospital for over 38 years before her retirement in 2012. Maria spent time as a First Aid Instructor and then advanced her career as an EMT for volunteer ambulance for 15+ years.
Maria was a woman of strong faith and was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church of Whitehall where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the National Centre for Padre Pio in Barto, PA and a member of St. Francis of Assisi in Bethlehem. Above all, Maria was a caring and compassionate woman who adored her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Maria will be lovingly remembered by her children, Deborah, wife of Richard Bassett of North Port, FL, MaryAnn, wife of Scott Christman, Sr. of Allen Township, Charles N. Bauer and husband Bill Ajhar of South Beloit, IL, and Nicole, wife of Thomas Miller, Jr. of Phillipsburg, NJ. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; brother, Nicholas Camody, Sr. of Pittsburgh; and sister, Theresa Camody of Bethlehem. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brother, Serafino “Nick” Camody.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 3, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 3024 S Ruch St, Whitehall, PA 18052. A viewing will be held from 8:30-10:00 AM at Brubaker Funeral Home, 327 Chestnut St., Coplay, PA 18037. Entombment will follow services at Woodlawn Cemetery in Allentown. Contributions may be made in Maria’s name to Battle Borne and sent to 1220 S Halstead St, Allentown, PA 18103, or the Alzheimer’s Association and sent to 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
