Obituaries

Marlene M. Hess, 88, of Coplay, formerly of Emmaus, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Whitehall Manor. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Herbert P. Dougherty and Catherine (Kacsur) Dougherty. She was the wife of the late William J. Hess.
Marlene was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Allentown. She worked for many years as a registered nurse, eventually retiring from Cedarbrook Nursing Home in Allentown. Marlene was a dedicated volunteer at the Lehigh Valley Historical Society.
Marlene was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Whitehall and a former parishioner at St. Anne’s Church in Emmaus. She loved playing tennis and attended many U.S. Opens. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving are her sons Stephen M. Hess (Susan), Daniel J. Hess (Sharon), sister Diane Besz (Stephen), grandchildren Amanda Hess, Stephen Jr. Hess (Jessica),Bryan Hess, Gelsey Hess-Nickerson (Justin), Arrialle Hess, and great grandchildren Annabelle, Olivia and Barrett and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Karen Ann.
A calling period will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, 3024 S. Ruch St., Whitehall, PA. 18052 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow mass at Jacobs Union Church Cemetery, 8364 Kings Hwy., New Tripoli, Pennsylvania 18066.
