Obituary for Mary A. Gillette
Mary A. (Cherowich) Gillette, 100 years of Catasauqua formerly of Lehighton passed away quietly Wednesday September 10, 2008 in her residence. She was married to the late John C. Gillette before his passing in 1985. As a newly married couple they lived in Lehighton for several years where Mary often said her heart remained on Stedman Avenue. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for over 68 years and served on numerous organizations and committees in the church. She had worked as a laborer for former Catasauqua silk mills for several years but most of her life she enjoyed being a devoted wife, mother and homemaker to her family. Surviving are daughters Agnes Berg of Allentown, Elizabeth Arey of Catasauqua, Mary Ann Sterner of Northampton, Angela Resh of Whitehall, Therese Gillette of Northampton, Margaret Rawson of Macungie, sons Joseph of Catasauqua, John Jr. of Allentown, Paul of Bethlehem, Peter of Houston, Texas, Edward of Catasauqua, Anthony of Northampton and Timothy of Atlanta, Ga. She was preceded in death by a son Christopher. Mary has twenty nine grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:00am Monday September 15 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Second and Union Streets Catasauqua. Call 7:00pm until 8:30pm Sunday and 8:30am until 9:30am Monday in the Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 234 Walnut Street Catasauqua.
