Obituary for Michael F. Oleschak

Michael F. Oleschak, 90, a lifelong resident of Coplay, passed away in his home on August 29, 2022, after a long and lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Sonia M. (Dubrosky) Oleschak for 63 beautiful years. Born in Cementon, he was the son of the late Michael and Pauline (Gollatz) Oleschak. Michael was a 1950 graduate of Whitehall High School.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Ord, California during the Korean Conflict. He worked in inspections at General Electric for over 30 years and went on to enjoy working for Saucon Valley Country Club as a groundskeeper for many years before his retirement in 1998. Michael was an avid bowler since his teenager years of pinsetting at Coplay’s local bowling alley. He continued to bowl at places like the American Club and the Coplay Saengerbund, where his grandfather was one of the founding members. Michael was known as a kind and smart man who could accomplish most anything he set his mind to. There wasn’t anything Michael couldn’t do. Michael remodeled every home that he lived in with his family. Especially dear to his heart was his home in the Poconos, where he spent many nights outside on his deck enjoying the company of his family and friends. Above all, Michael was a devoted husband, loving father, and friend.

He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Sonia Oleschak of Coplay; daughters, Betsy Oleschak of Coplay, and Kristin Axberg of Washington, D.C., also Sonia’s niece and nephew, Kathyrn Demko and Michael Ivankovits who were there for Uncle Mike whenever help was needed. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Polchik of Catasauqua.

A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc., 327 Chestnut St., Coplay, PA 18037. A visitation will be held from 10:30 AM to 12 Noon at the funeral home. Graveside services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Michael’s memory to one’s favorite charity.
