Obituary for Peter Gratzon
Peter Gratzon, 99 years, formerly of Catasauqua, died Wednesday November 15th, 2017 in his home in Boca Raton, FL. He was the husband of the late Irene Ann (Kavalkovich) Gratzon. Born in Lansford, PA, he was a son of the late Stephen and Anna (Yurchak) Gratzon.
Peter was a very active member of Salem U.C.C., where he had served in consistory. A Chief Petty Officer, he was a Navy veteran serving during WWII in the Pacific Theater and during the Korean War. Peter was a lifetime member of the Catasauqua Legion, Post #215. He attended Lehigh University and Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and George Washington University when he worked for the government in Washington D.C. He was a head Navy recruiter for many years in the Lehigh Valley and Reading before retiring. He was also previously the co-owner of the former Heavy’s Beverages in Catasauqua. He was an honors graduate of Catasauqua High School where he was a star athlete and MVP of the baseball team. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed golfing at Willow Brook Golf course in Catasauqua.
Survivors include his daughter Dianne Singer, grandchildren Dr. Kimberly Dianne Singer, Alexis Rae Singer-Weaver, Christopher Michael Singer and fiancé Brenda Borton; son Peter Jr. and grandson Andrew Gratzon. He was predeceased by 9 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on at 11AM on Friday November 24, 2017 at Brubaker Funeral Home 234 Walnut St. Catasauqua, PA 18032. A viewing will be held from 10-11AM on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made in his name payable to Salem U.C.C., 615 3rd Street, Catasauqua, 18032.
