Obituary for Reverend Wilbur E. Goist
Reverend Wilbur E. Goist 100 years, of Allentown died Tuesday September 14, 2010 in his residence at Luther Crest. He was the husband of the late Roberta G. “Bobbie” Goist. Born in North Jackson, OH., he was the son of the late Ray E. and Mary (Creed) Goist. Pastor Bill was a minister for 73 years, serving in the Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church before relocating to Allentown in 1979 to join the staff of First Presbyterian. He retired in 2009 from his home church Asbury Methodist of Allentown at the age of 99. He was a graduate of Mount Union College of Ohio and the Boston University School of Theology. Surviving are daughters, Mary-Jo wife of David L. Kolde of Coopersburg, Peggy wife of Dennis D. Waskul of Willmar, MN., Jeanne wife of Martin B. McLean of Allentown and Wendy wife of Dr. Jeffrey M. Jones of Brooklyn, WI. Wilbur has twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Mark Wesley Goist and two brothers Philip and Ralph. Memorial services will be 11:00am Saturday September 25, 2010 in Asbury United Methodist Church 1533 Springhouse Road Allentown, Pa. 18104. Call from 9:30am until 11:00am Saturday in the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the church, St. Luke’s Hospice VNA 1510 Valley Center Pkwy # 200 Bethlehem, PA 18017 or Louds Island Church c/o Dan Mahoney Jr. 12 Beach Drive Brunswick, ME. 04011. The Brubaker Funeral Home of Catasauqua is in charge of arrangements.
