Obituary for Richard Craig Bird
Richard Craig Bird, 60 of North Catasauqua, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday December 14th, 2010. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the U.S.S. Brownson. He was a golf and motorcycle enthusiast, but his real passion was music. For many years he was a member of the Mail Pouch Express, a popular band who were instrumental in establishing bluegrass roots in the Lehigh Valley. They played at many festivals and were privileged to perform with such nationally recognized artists as the McCourys, Flatt & Scruggs and June Carter Cash. Richard will be dearly missed by family and friends. He was the beloved son of Ruth L. (Beltz) Bird and the late Albert Bird. His sisters are Nancy E. McCarty, wife of John C. McCarty of Walnutport and Cynthia J. Daubert, wife of Keith E. Daubert of Kutztown. His nieces and nephews are Kelli, Erin, Katie, Patrick, Dominic, Shannon and Sophia. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions in memoriam may be made to the Alpha-1 Foundation in care of Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc., 234 Walnut St. Catasauqua, 18032.
