Obituary for Richard E. Smith
Richard E. Smith, 84, formerly of Whitehall, died Monday February 6, 2023 with his daughter and son-in-law by his side. He was the husband of the late Lenore (Piper) Smith and celebrated 57 years of marriage when she passed in 2019. Born in West Catasauqua, he was the son of the late F. Harry Smith of Lehighton and the late Mollie (Kingcaid) Gehris of Allentown.
Richard was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua and the Masons Porter Lodge #284. He retired from Lucent Technologies in July of 2000 after 43 years. Richard was a veteran and honorably served his country in the Army.
Surviving is his daughter Annette Span and husband Joel with whom he resided; sisters Diane wife of William Kehm & Lucille wife Joseph Raczkowski. He was preceded in death by his grandson Joseph Richard Span, and sister Sandra Kulpa.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Brubaker Funeral Home of Catasauqua is honored to handle the arrangements.
