Obituary for Robert "Bob" F. Bechtold
Robert (Bob) Bechtold, 84 years, of Orlando, FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 8, 2018 in his home. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ann (Solderich) Bechtold for over 63 years. He was born on March 7, 1934 in N. Catasauqua, PA, son of the late John and Helen (Parker) Bechtold.
Bob graduated from Whitehall High School in 1952. He joined the Navy in 1953 serving four years on the Howard W. Gilmore AS-16 and the USS Saratoga CVA-60 attending commissioning and decommissioning ceremonies. He retired from AT&T as a supervisor after a 29 year career and enjoyed 10 years working for Disney as a cast member on their golf courses.
He was a life-time member of the Fullerton Fire Co. and the Fullerton American Legion Post #367. He was a member of the Porter Lodge No. 284. He volunteered at Dr. Phillips Hospital, Orlando, FL for 10 years. He was an avid golfer proudly accomplishing four hole-in-ones.
Surviving along with his wife Mary Ann Bechtold are his sons John (Linda) of St. Petersburg, FL, Robert (Rita) of Eagle River, AK, daughters Mary Jo Bretzius of Coplay, Linda (Jeff) O’Donnell of Walnutport, sons Thomas (Mary) of Slatington, Gary (Lisa) of Whitehall; his brothers John (Phyllis-deceased) of Walnutport, Charles (Barbara) of Walnutport, James (Paul) of Aquashicola, William (Sharon) of Northampton, Richard (companion Jeannie) of Whitehall, Ronald (Eileen) of Whitehall; his grandchildren Mandy, Jeffrey, Amy, Robbie, Bobby Jo, Jessi, Shayna, Chelsy, Mike, and Joe; his great grandchildren Cora, Logan, Griffin, McKenzie, Mason, Alexa, Emily, Nautica, Arianna, Amelia, Nate, Eddie, Will, and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Ann Warmkessel.
A Memorial Service will be held graveside at 10:00 am on Saturday May 5, 2018, at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, 1700 Airport Road, Allentown, PA. Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. of Catasauqua is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camelot for Children, 2354 West Emmaus Avenue, Allentown, PA 18103.
