Obituary for Robert G. "Nick" Nicklas
Robert G. "Nick" Nicklas, 78, of Whitehall, formerly of Catasauqua, died Saturday September 29th, 2012 at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest. He was the husband of Sylvia (Rutman) Nicklas and celebrated 48 years of marriage together in July of 2012. Born in Catasauqua, he was a son of the late Charles C. and Mary (Sakasits) Nicklas. Robert was a member of St. Mary’s Church of the Annunciation B.V.M. of Catasauqua. Most recently, Robert worked as the treasurer for Southwark Social Club in Catasauqua for the past 9 years. Prior to that he was the Catasauqua Legion Club Manager. Robert was the bar manager at the former American Hotel in Catasauqua. He was the owner of the former Nick’s Bar on Front and Race Streets in Catasauqua from 1966-1971. Robert worked as a die mounter for the Container Corporation on Race Street in Catasauqua. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Robert was a 1951 graduate of Catasauqua High School. Surviving along with his wife are a brother Richard and wife Joan of Kingsland, GA; sister Anne Klinger of Worcester, PA; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters Hedwig, Martha, Mitzi, Barbara; brothers Carl and Joseph. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am Saturday October 6th, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 122 Union St. Catasauqua, 18032. Call from 9:30-11am at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the church, American Kidney Fund or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society care of the Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 234 Walnut St. Catasauqua, 18032.
