Obituary for Roy R. Smith Jr.
Roy R. Smith Jr., 71 of N. Catasauqua died Saturday January 5, 2013 in the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Center, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Linda (Carl) Smith and will celebrate their 48th wedding anniversary this year. Born in Allentown he was the son of the late Roy R. Smith Sr. and Marion (Jones) Smith. Roy was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Kreidersville. He was employed by Milliken Valve of Bethlehem as a Computer Aided Drafting Consultant for many years before retiring. Previously he was a manager for Western Union for 24 years. Roy played drums since he was six years old and played in the Air Force Band where he played for dignitaries of several foreign countries including the King and Queen of Greece. Roy played in several local bands including “The Shadows” and “Autumn” in which he drummed for 22 years. He served his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam era and is a member of the Catasauqua American Legion # 215. Surviving with his wife is son Kevin M. Smith of Lehighton, daughters Lisa Schaeffer wife of Tom of Allentown, Treena Haggerty wife of John of Lehigh Twsp., Amy George wife of Mike of Allentown, seven grandchildren Amanda L. Smith, Kevin R. Smith, Tyler R. Smith, Shayla A. Smith, Michael P. Haggerty, Lauren E. Haggerty, Tommy J. Schaeffer Jr. and one great grandson Jovan X. Vega. Roy has three sisters, Sandra Werner, Judith Lewis, Kathleen Gery and one brother James W. Smith. He was preceded in death by sister Jean Clair and brothers John and Richard. Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday January 9, in the Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 234 Walnut Street Catasauqua, Pa. 18032. His viewing will be 7:00 to 8:30pm Tuesday January 8 and 10:00am until 11:00am Wednesday prior to the services in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the family payable and c/o the funeral home.
