Obituaries
Sally Chromiak (Miller), 92, of Catasauqua, passed away of pancreatic cancer on November 2, 2024, surrounded by loved ones in LVHN Muhlenberg Hospital. Born September 22, 1932, in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Calvin and Isabelle (Kline) Miller. Sally was the devoted wife of 67 years to the late golf professional, Stephen Chromiak. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Hyatt (Robert Hyatt) of Simsbury, CT.
Sally lived her life for family and faith. She enjoyed all the holidays hosting dinners for 25-30 family members. Sally was matriarch of not only her immediate family but of the Chromiak, Kline, and Miller families. Her picnics at her and Steve’s farm, North Oaks, in Danielsville, became the glue that held these families together. She was warm and welcoming and always made sure everyone was happy and well fed. She loved all the chores owning a farm like North Oaks brought her.
Earlier in her life, Sally worked at Hess’s Department Store as a clerk in the men’s department. Later when her mother, Isabelle, retired as manager of Willow Brook Golf Course, Sally, and her husband , Steve, resumed as managers until their retirement in 1995. Together, they raised four daughters. She was a very active member of the former St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Catasauqua, where she taught Sunday School to preschoolers and was part of the staff that directed the HYFAD Youth Group. Sally and Steve ran the Danny Danko golf benefit for the Catasauqua YMCA for many years.
She loved golf and played a very competitive game. She was adored by the golfers at Willow Brook, and many became not only customers but friends.
She loved antiquing, flea markets, auctions, and yard sales; horses and dogs; nature walks; attending her families sporting events; Duke basketball; the Animal Planet Channel and travelling. Sally and Steve traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, numerous U.S. States, Canada, national and local parks, Grand Cayman Island, England, and Scotland, playing St. Andrews Golf Club. She taught her daughters to love nature, traveling, and introduced them all to horseback riding. Her dogs, Nollie, and Joy were close to her heart especially after the loss of Steve.
Mom, from all of us, we love you and we will miss your smile, hugs, and kisses and most of all your unconditional love that brought everyone you touched great warmth. Your leaving has left a huge hole in our hearts.
Sally will be dearly missed by her daughters, Gail Carpency, Lynn Burkit and husband Mark, Janice Frantz, and her husband Michael, all of Danielsville and Karen Hendricks of Northampton. Sally also had 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, which all brought her extreme joy.
