Obituary for Samuel W. Burrows

Samuel W. Burrows, 76 of Danielsville passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Formally of Catasauqua, he was the son of the late Wilmer T. Burrows and Lucretia P. (Steckel) Burrows.


He was the husband of Linda L. (Hoffman) Burrows with whom he shared 53 years of marriage this past May.  Sam served honorably in the US Army, stationed in Vietnam and was a Purple Heart recipient.


He started his career in the Catasauqua Volunteer Fire Department in 1965 and later promoted to Fire Chief, serving from 1985-2010. He served the community for over 45 years with bravery and pride in multiple capacities. He was also employed as a courier for FedEx, retiring in 2006.


Sam was a longtime member of the American Legion and an Eagle Scout. He also was an active member in Boy Scouts Troop 94, including time as an assistant scout master. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.


Those left to cherish fond memories include his wife, Linda L. Burrows; son, Shawn M. Burrows; daughter, Michele M. Gmitter, and husband Joseph; brother, Forrest Burrows, and wife Susan; sister Carol Sadowski and husband Ralph; sister-in-law Jeanette Burrows; grandchildren, Isabella, Aidan, and Katelyn Gmitter as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother James Burrows.


There will be a visitation on Friday, November 10, 2023 from 10-11 a.m. at Brubaker Funeral Home, Inc. 234 Walnut Street, Catasauqua, PA. 18032 with a funeral service officiated by Pastor Gary L. Walbert at 11:00 a.m. in the parlor. Interment to immediately follow at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Allentown.
